Dear John,

	Many apologies for have been so long in answering your last
letter.  The truth is that I couldn't make up my mind whether to
accept your invitation to lecture in your meeting.  Eventually, I
decided I had better decline but put off answering.  I just have
to increase my ratio between time spent doing research and time
spent communicating.

	I still hope for an occasion to visit you, and I am sure it
will arise.
